1~20

1~20是美国学校发给外国学生用来申请签证进入美国的通行证,上面载明了持该表学生就读的学校、系所、准予合法在美国居留的期限以及应提供财力证明的金额等重要事项。

收到1~20后,应注意以下几点:

仔细地查对表上的姓名、出生年、月、日以及所申请学校的科系等是否正确,如有不符,应立刻要求学校补发一份,并将错误说明清楚,再予退回。如果同时收到几个学校的1~20,在考虑并选择后,应退回其他不去就读学校的1~20,并附上一封信,表示谢意和遗憾,说不定将来还有可能再回到其中的某个学校攻读学位。

在接到一所学校给予的奖学金后,无须急于答复,因为可能会有更多更好的学校给予奖学金。到4月上、中旬再决定去哪一所学校,然后再把其他学校回绝掉。

1~20上列有关于你个人的学位目标、应到校报到期限、预定毕业年限、学费、奖学金等重要资料,所以一定要特别留意。

一定要记得,复印一份1~20放在身边,1~20正本在拿到学生签证时,会被放在一份密封的信封内,不得私自拆封,所以最好留一份复印件。

在收到1~20的同时,校方也会寄来许多有关学校设备、宿舍申请或社团介绍等各种资料。其中最重要的就是宿舍申请一项,住校与否要考虑多方面的因素,不过,首要的是弄清楚宿舍种类、租金、是否男女同楼、伙食情形等重要资料,再按自己的个性、经济情况酌情考量。

一旦决定后,千万要在申请截止日期前寄到,并附上应缴纳的申请费或保证金,这样才能顺利地申请到满意的宿舍。当然,如果有特殊请求或自己健康所需,如必须住在一楼,或不愿靠近宿舍大门等任何意见,都要在申请时说明清楚,可避免以后有问题要求更换宿舍时的麻烦;申请表上所有讯息也要阅读清楚之后再签名,尤其是保证金、申请费能否退回或有没有任何责任等,都要事先了解清楚。
