芷江属亚热带季风湿润气候区，气候温和，四季分明，雨量集中，日照充足。年平均气温为15.8℃～17.3℃，年降雨量1156.4～1432.9毫米。平均日照1527.7小时，年无霜期279天。芷江以种植业为主，开发较早，农产品丰富，古有“担不完的沅州”之称。
