Thomas Hardy was an English novelist and poet，born near Dorchester，and one of the great English w riters of the 19th century.

Plot：Tess comes from a farmer's family，the Durbeyfields.Her parents urge Tess to claim kinship with the remaining D'Urbervilles.Unwillingly，the girl comes in contact with the Stoke，D'Urbervilles.There she meets Alec D'Urbervilles.Her tragic life has just begun.
