Charles Dickens（1812-1870） is an English novelist.His full name is Charles John Huffam Dickens.As the famous novelist in Victoria Age，his works are still popular and have great effects on English literature.

Dickens was born in Portsmouth.His family moved to Chatham when he was five years old，and then Camden Town when he was ten.Receiving education in a private school for a period of time in the early years，Dickens was forced to drop out when he was twelve because of his father's being put into prison for debt.

Suffering a lot in the hands of Fagin，Oliver is then saved by Rose Maylie and the elderly Mrs.Maylie after being shot.At the end of the story，Fagin is arrested and hanged for his misdeeds.Mrs.Maylie turns out to be the long-lost sister of Oliver's mother.Oliver lives happily with his savior，Mr.Brownlow.

Comment：Oliver Twist was famous for exposing the dark sides of people lived out that time.It exposed the hypocrisy and cruelty of parish workhouse through depicting the little orphan boy Oliver Twist's childhood in it.He gave realistic pictures of the horrible existence in workhouse.
