读写联动教学法的这一阶段就是要根据教材中阅读材料的不足，有意识地按照阅读理解教学的要求，完成写作教学的这一基础工作，从而实现写作话题与阅读材料的联动。例如，在学习人民教育出版社教材《新目标英语》八年级下Unit 2“I'll help to clean up the city parks.”第一课时过程中，笔者制定了本节课的教学目标。

然后，根据教学需求，笔者在网上找到了与本课志愿者话题相关的Michael Jackson演唱的英文歌Heal the World。进而，利用早读时间，让学生学习歌词、学习唱歌。

（一）确定阅读材料
根据建构主义和过程写作理论，阅读教学除了关注传统的篇章结构、语法、词汇外，更应关注阅读内容。因此，教师在筛选阅读材料时，要着重考虑两个方面的因素：一是学生，二是材料的内容。首先，所选材料的难度要适宜，要与学生的实际英语水平相适应。太难，则会造成教与学的诸多障碍，影响教学活动的顺畅进行；太易，则对学生没有太大的帮助，容易造成学生英语学习的麻痹思想。其次，所选的材料要思想健康、内容丰富、题材广泛。要既能引起学生浓厚的阅读兴趣，又能满足学生学、教师教的需要。最后，所选的材料要体裁多样，风格独特，语言规范地道，要有较高的借鉴、模仿价值。
在学习人民教育出版社教材《新目标英语》八年级Book 4 Unit 2“I'll help clean up the city parks.”单元的第一课时过程中，课本中的listening和speaking的内容对笔者的学生来讲略显单薄，listening不能满足学生speaking和writing的需要。因此，笔者在教材的使用上进行了一些调整。
设计思路为：通过听力学习本课的重点句型，利用阅读篇章来巩固所学的语言知识，培养学生一定的听力和阅读能力；通过补充阅读扩展话题的交际能力，能够口头和书面表达“What can we do to help others.（我们可以在哪些方面帮助他人）”。
本节课的两篇补充阅读分别选自课外阅读书。

笔者为补充阅读A设置了两个问题，使学生通过阅读，能够开阔思路，把握主旨。这样既能训练阅读技能，又能为口头表达做准备。

在补充阅读B中，指导学生通过阅读把握本文的主旨大意、作者的写作意图，进而理解本文的深刻内涵——Being a volunteer is so great！

When do you think of a forest，what do you see？Just trees？Or do you see many other things，such as singing birds，colorful plants and wild flowers？
The forest is a whole world of its own.It is full of many different living things（生物）.But even though they are all different，they have one thing in common：they all need each other in order to live on.
The trees feed the forest“people”by making food in their leaves；by using sunlight to join water and minerals（矿物）from the soil and air.Their deep network of roots joins the soil together and stops it from dying out，making it possible for living things to live in it.

通过以上教学案例可以看出，笔者所实验的从报刊阅读培养学生英语阅读自主学习能力的核心内容为：教师以课本阅读材料为指导，以补充的报刊阅读材料为拓展，并将它们作为写作的基础，使学生在掌握最基本的知识的同时，注意拓宽知识面；关注学生，给他们自主学习和直接交流的自我发展空间；鼓励学生通过体验、实践等方式，发展读写综合能力。
（二）背景知识准备
1.目的：该教学环节的目的：一是检查学生课前准备阶段预习的效果。二是锻炼学生的口语表达能力。三是学生之间分享背景知识，取长补短，为阅读与写作练习做好准备。
2.实施方法：在介绍与阅读材料和写作话题相关的背景知识时，教师既可给学生布置课前任务，让他们自由发言；也可由教师点名发言，一人发言后由其他学生进行补充。
3.重点关注：一是对于某些话题，根据多元智能理论，可有意识地让在这一方面有特长或兴趣的学生做重点准备，以充分发挥其智能特长。二是对于基础性的内容，如果学生没有讲到，教师可做启发式引导或直接向学生提供补充。
