2020年新冠肺炎病毒肆虐全球，我国之所以能快速控制疫情，传统中医药在其中发挥了重要作用。据不完全统计，全国新冠肺炎确诊病例中，有超过7.4万人使用了中医药，占91.5%；其中，湖北省超过6万人使用了中医药，占90.6%。临床疗效观察显示，中医药总有效率达到90%以上。

Traditional Chinese Medicine: Inheritance and starting anew
Sichuan is historically known as a “home of traditional Chinese medicine” and a “treasure trove of medicinal herbs”. There are more than 5,000 varieties of medicinal herbs across the province, including more than 50 geo-authentic crude drugs. The province boasts a medical materials reserve of more than 10 billion tons. The geo-authentic and bulk medicinal materials produced in Sichuan rank at the top nationw ide. Built on Sichuan’s centuries-old TCM legacy and local strengths, the bio-town focuses on four areas, i.e. the in-depth development of geo-authentic crude drugs, the secondary development and international reach of Chinese patent medicines, TCM precision health management services, and the combined prevention and treatment of major diseases w ith TCM and Western medicine. The goal is to tap the clinical value of TCM, turning resource strengths into industrial strengths.
In 2020, the COV ID-19 swept through the world, but China was able to contain it quickly. TCM played a key role in the f ight against the virus. According to incomplete statistics, among the conf irmed COVID-19 cases in China, more than 74,000 patients were adm inistered TCM, accounting for 91.5% of the total. Particularly, more than 60,000 patients in Hubei Province were adm inistered TCM, accounting for 90.6% of the total. Observations on clinical eff icacy show that the overall eff icacy rate of TCM was above 90%.
The bio-town and Sichuan Academ y of Chinese Medicine Science（SACMS） has entered a cooperation agreement under the National TCM Inheritance and Innovation Construction Project. The bio-tow n has pooled together a sound cluster of pharmaceutical com panies, including Sinopharm China TCM, Sunf lower Pharmaceutical Group, Fuzheng Pharmaceutical, Tasly, and Kanghong Pharmaceutical.
